BRUNO MATHSSON

THE FATHER OF SWEDISH MODERN

Bruno Mathsson was born in Varnamo, Sweden in 1907. It can be argued that no one has made a larger impact on Swedish furniture design than Mathsson. With designs that are a fusion of traditional Swedish crafts and Modernism, Mathsson was ultimately hailed as one of the pioneers of the style that later came to be known as Swedish Modern. During the 1960s he developed a unique building technique for wooden chairs in which the components were glued and bent under hot water. Little did he know this would become one of the hallmarks of Scandinavian furniture design.

Mathsson and DUX had a very close, creative partnership during the 60s and 70s. This collaboration resulted in a host of timeless design classics that DUX still produces - including The Jetson, Karin, and Pernilla chairs.

In celebration of this 50-year collaboration, DUX is bringing the Jetson chair to the U.S. market as well as The Jetson, Pernilla and Karin chairs in limited edition fabrics and leathers to the Scandinavian markets.
